Rapidus: Camurus is “Company of the Year”

Headquartered in Lund, Sweden, Camurus provides innovative nanoscale drug-delivery systems. Camurus has just launched its first product to the U.S. and sublicensed another product to Novartis. MVA Ambassador Program Expands to the U.S. West Coast and China

Companies and organizations in Medicon Valley now get their own Ambassador on the U.S. West Coast and in China. This is a result of Region Skåne and the Capital Region of Denmark demonstrating their strong support for the MVA Ambassador Program by a financial grant of DKK 14,4 million for the period 2013-2017. Read more

Financial survey of unlisted biotech companies

For the third consecutive year, Medicon Valley Alliance has conducted a financial survey of the unlisted biotech companies in Medicon Valley. Overall, the 48 companies participating in the survey raised fresh capital totaling DKK 694 million in 2011. In addition to the financial circumstances of 2011, the analysis also focuses on the companies’ expectations in terms of their financial position this year (2012).

Medicon Valley Establishes Strategic Collaboration with Japan

With a new collaboration agreement, Medicon Valley Alliance and Japan Bioindustry Association will aim to establish partnerships between the industry and universities. The agreement includes all aspects of research, development and production as well as commercialization.

Clinical Research in Life Science Sweden - MVA Chronicle

According to LIF, the industry organization for pharmaceutical companies in Sweden, the number of clinical trials in Sweden have decreased by 48% since 2004. But Sweden has a competitive platform for clinical research and should be able to regain a leading position.

Denmark need Strategy Focusing on Talent

Companies in Medicon Valley are critically dependent on the presence of talent.
But in order to attract talent we must improve a number of things including lower income tax, access to good international schools and willingness from all of us to integrate new talent in our own social network. Denmark needs a coordinated strategy focusing on talent.

South Korea heads for Bio-top 7

A cocktail of economic growth, a rapid shift to a more Western lifestyle and a growing population that is getting older has made South Korea one of Asia's fastest growing pharmaceutical markets. The Korean medical market with 50 million people is by now the 4th biggest in Asia and 15th in the world.

Despite the great potential there is still a relatively modest attention on South Korea from the Danish and Swedish life science companies in Medicon Valley. This was one of the conclusions at a seminar organized by Medicon Valley Alliance on IPR rules and issues in South Korea.

Medicon Valley is facing increasing global competition and life science players in Medicon Valley need to find new smart ways to exploit the full potential of the region.

This is the one of the conclusions which can be derived from three recent reports:  “VINNOVA - Svensk Life Science industri efter AstraZenecas nedskärningar”, “ OECD Territorial Reviews - Skåne, Sweden, 2012” and ”Ernst & Young - Beyond borders: Global biotechnology report 2012”.

Medicon Valley and Massachusetts form Groundbreaking Agreement on Health Research

Leveraged by the Life Science Ambassador, Torsten Jepsen, Region Skåne, Region Zealand and The Capital Region of Denmark have now signed an agreement with Massachusetts, US, designed to strengthen and develop the collaboration between the two regions within life science.

The agreement is the first of its kind and will allow for enhanced research collaborations, exchange of researchers and students between Medicon Valley and Massachusetts, easier access to US research funds and enhanced business development in the Öresund region. Read the press release (in Danish).
