High Interest in Exclusive Meetings with Thomas Jonsson, the Medicon Valley Ambassador in Japan

Recently MVA hosted a series of arranged meetings between Thomas Jonsson, the Medicon Valley Ambassador in Japan, and Medicon Valley companies who hold interest in the Japanese market. The result was two days with a fully booked meeting schedule. Read more

13 New Members Have Joined the Alliance

MVA is pleased to announce that 13 new companies have decided to join MVA since the beginning of 2009. MVA is delighted to welcome Astellas Pharma A/S, A+ Science, Biosphere, COBIS A/S, Dantrials, E. Information Meeting: EU Funding for Health Related Research Projects - 20 April

Medicon Valley Alliance and EuroCenter (part of the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation) will host an information meeting on the upcoming call for proposals concerning the health theme in EU's 7th framework programme for research and technological development (FP7). This is a unique opportunity to learn more about EU's 7th framework programme and to get a head start on the next call for proposals, which is expected to be published by the European Commission during the summer 2009. Meeting Medicon Valley 2009: Redefining Funding Strategies - 5 May 2009

University of Lund's Diabetes Center Given the Go Ahead for Testing Diabetes on Infants

In a few weeks, trials begin on the first children that are to be vaccinated with Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD). The hope is that GAD can inhibit the development of type-1 diabetes. Read more (in Swedish)

DTU Develops Atlas of Hereditary Diseases

A universal connection between genes, protein complexes and tissue types for more than 1,000 hereditary diseases has now been mapped and made accessible for the public. It is the result of a biological system research project from DTU in collaboration with researchers from Harvard Medical School. Read more (in Danish)

New Hope for Complicated Breast Cancer Treatments

A third of all breast cancer patients have the so-called oestrogen-negative tumours which cannot be treated with effective hormonal medicine like Tamoxifen. A group of researchers at the University of Lund and the University Hospital MAS have now discovered a possible future treatment method. Read more (in Swedish)

New World-Class Biobank in Denmark

The National Serum Institute has been awarded a grant of DKK 121 million from the Danish Minister for Science and the Novo Nordisk Fund in order to strengthen the Danish health research. The initiative will benefit research into the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases. Read more (in Danish)

Swedish Pharmacy Market to be Liberalized

The Swedish Government have submitted a proposal on the re-regulation of the pharmacy market to the Riksdag on 20 February 2009. The proposal will bring about a liberalization of the rules on operating a pharmacy in Sweden. Read more
