Meeting Medicon Valley 2008, 24 September

More than 200 executives, senior managers, and industry specialists have now registered for Meeting Medicon Valley 2008. Twenty of MVA's biotech members have submitted a poster and the poster committee has identified three of these companies to give a 15 minute plenum presentation. We are also pleased to announce a strengthened programme: Stephan Christgau, NOVO Seeds, has accepted to take over the empty spot in our programme and will present NOVO under the title "Creating and Financing new Life Science Companies". Only a few places are available. Read more

Øresund Symposium on Medical Decision Support Systems

MVA, along with LUMI and Øresund IT, is co-arranging the first Øresund symposium on Medical Decision Support Systems in health care and research. The first symposium held on 9 October 2008 will explore current activities in Medicon Valley. The programme includes presentations of company products, clinical experiences and an update on ongoing research projects. Read more

BONESUPPORT Acquires Ultrazonix and Implements SEK 122 Million New Share Issue

The medical device company Bonesupport has acquired Ultrazonix, a medical technology company which has developed a new ultrasound based method for treatment of herniated discs. At the same time Bonesupport is implementing a new share issue of SEK 122 million to guarantee continued expansion. Read more

Industry and Academia Co-Creating Sustainable Innovation

Copenhagen Business School will repeat the success of spring 2008 and run the Sustainable Innovation Camp - a new innovative course concept, combining academia and industry. Companies can participate with an actual business case and then co-create future business models together with academia. Read more

Young Researcher at Lund Awarded Millions from the Novo Nordisk Foundation

Nils Wierup, scientist at the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University, has been awarded the Novo Nordisk Foundations Excellence Award and along with it SEK 5 million. Read more (in Swedish)

Lund University Granted SEK 18 Million by VINNOVA

The University of Lund has received a grant of SEK 18 million from VINNOVA, for its Industrial Biotechnology Program. Read more

Genzyme Enters Into Collaboration with Advinus to Accelerate Discovery of Novel Therapies for Malaria

Genzyme and Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) have announced a new collaboration with India's Advinus Therapeutics. The collaboration seeks to develop new, improved treatments for specific patient groups most at risk for malaria. Read more

Swedish Engineering Students not Interested in Working with Research

According to a new study from Awapatent, only 1 in 5 engineering students dream of a life as a scientist. This makes research departments the least favoured alternative in career choices among engineering students. Read more (in Swedish)
