The industry's leading global magazine, Managing Intellectual Property (MIP), has named Awapatent "Sweden IP Firm of the Year" for the second year in succession. This accolade is based on the result of comments from more than 2,000 clients and IP professionals.
- Winning the IP industry's most prestigious award two years in succession is a tremendous achievement, says Magnus Hallin, Awapatent's CEO.
He further comments:
- Companies in Sweden and the rest of Europe are increasingly beginning to recognise the usefulness of IP as a business tool. This is a development that is very much in our favour at Awapatent, because we focus on providing clients with strategic IP advice from a commercial perspective.
At the start of the year, as part of Awapatent's plans to grow its business on the European continent, Awapatent expanded through a merger with the Danish-based Internationalt Patent-Bureau. As a result of the merger Awapatent is now one of the very largest European IP consulting organisations, with approximately 170 patent attorneys and attorneys at law, and a total of 350 employees in 13 offices in Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
In 2008 both Sweden and Denmark set new national records for the number of international patent applications they filed: 4,114 for Sweden and 1,328 for Denmark, compared with 3,657 and 1,153 in 2007. Parallel with this development, the international London Agreement came into force, substantially reducing the cost of Community patents within Europe and further facilitating the ongoing process of internationalisation in the world of patents.
The World IP Survey is a qualitative ranking of the leading IP firms in a number of countries. The results are based on interviews with more than 2,000 clients and other professionals in the IP industry conducted by the industry's leading magazine, Managing Intellectual Property. This is the thirteenth year that the survey has been published.
