Øresundsinstituttet: Invest in Sweden Agency Cries Wolf about Swedish and Danish Competitiveness
A newly published article by Invest in Sweden Agency (ISA) paints a dull picture of the Swedish life science industry. It argues that Sweden's position as a renowned research country is threatened and points at the fact that no foreign life science company has established new operations in Sweden for the last 20 years. Also Denmark has been bad at attracting new investments, according to the author Björn Bergstrand.
The independent think tank Øresundsinstituttet has made its own analysis of the life science industry and sees no reason to panic. In an article in the latest edition of quarterly Øi ANALYSe the Managing director Anders Olshov relates EU's, Denmark's and Sweden's life science exports to total exports in each region. It shows that both Denmark and Sweden have a higher percentage of life science exports than the EU and that the share has increased over the last five years in Denmark. Øresundsinstituttet concludes that the increased exports in Denmark have had a positive effect on Medicon Valley and have strengthened the Oresund region as a life science cluster.
