The Swedish Research Council grants SEK 323 million to medical research projects and employment opportunities in 2008.
The SEK 323 million is to be given in support of new projects and employment opportunities in medical research, by the Swedish Research Council in 2008. The latest government bill relating to research proposed an increase in public funding to be granted through the Council, which has resulted in an increase in the amounts distributed.
Medicine, as a general field, will thus receive a total of SEK 800 million in research grants in 2008.
The increased funds have meant that nearly 400, of the approximately 1,500 grant applications received, could be approved. The institutions with the most succesful number of applications were the Karolinska Institute, Lund University and Uppsala University.
Eleven grants in support of transnational and inter-disciplinary cooperation were approved, as were 23 grants for the invitation of international guest lecturers, to promote Swedish research internationally.
