On 25 September MVA was visited by a delegation from the Department of Strategic Planning - Ministry of Planning and Budget of the Republic of Korea. The delegation was interested in learning more about the Medicon Valley region as well as the activities and function of MVA with a view to forming a similar cluster organization in Korea. The delegation was also accompanied by the Head of the International Department of Korea's largest business newspaper, the Maeil Business Newspaper. The mission was organized by the Korean Embassy in Copenhagen.
On 21 September MVA hosted a high level delegation of policy makers, academics and business people from the northern Munho region of Portugal. The Task Force is developing a cluster strategy for the biomedical and health related services in Portugal. At the top of their agenda for their visit, was their meeting with MVA to discuss issues related to MVA's role in the region, public-private partnerships within the context of Øresund Science Region, MVA's role in creating synergies between R&D institutions, companies and hospital clinics as well as the commercialization of R&D in Medicon Valley.
Portugal is currently chairing the European Council and its government has made health and life science issues one of their priority initiatives at the European level. Members of the delegation at as advisors to several ministries and participate in national policy making. The Minho region is presently getting a major regional hospital with a range of linkages to the business and academic sectors and as well as to community healthcare services.
The lessons learned and the impressions brought back to Portugal from the meetings during this Medicon Valley visit will be reported at a national workshop in Portugal on October 10 to which two ministers will be participating.
