The Medicon Valley region: A great biotech success
A new analysis from University of Copenhagen and DTU shows that Medicon Valley ranks among the best in Europe when it comes to biotech research. In particular Novo Nordisk and Novozymes add to this prominent ranking.
The Medicon Valley ranks as number four in Europe and 14 worldwide within biotech research and occupy a prominent position amongst the important biotech regions. An analysis carried out by the University of Copenhagen and the Danish Technical University shows that particularly Novo Nordisk and Novozymes is an influential factor.
Christian Wichmann Mathiessen, Professor at the University of Copenhagen, comments that the Novo Group has been a major factor to the position the region has today. Without the Novo Group present in Medicon Valley, the region would be at risk of being obliged to the old North European research areas, coincided with the Asian regions jumping on the bandwagon.
Novo Group performs five per cent of the region's research
The reason that the Novo Group has influenced so heavily on Medicon Valley's position as a biotech region is their research effort and collaboration with universities and research institutions.
According to the analysis the Novo Group performs five per cent of all research related to natural sciences as well as technology and medico research.
