The Lund based biotech company Camurus was selected as the best private biotech company in Medicon Valley at the Strictly Financing Award 2007. British investors evaluated six nominated private companies and were highly impressed with the quality.
At the Strictly Financing Award 2007 held 12 June at the Copenhagen Opera House, Camurus was selected as the best private biotech company in the Medicon Valley region.
- I must admit I did not expect this, the competition was so tough, commented Frederik Tiberg, CEO of Camurus, when he received the award.
- The award validates our technology and drug development programs and it supports our business strategy. It involved the review by an independent and strong panel of experienced biotech investors, which makes the award especially beneficial. From a more internal perspective the award is recognition of our research and a source of inspiration for Camurus' scientists, founders and long-term owners.
Patrick Lee General Partner of Advent Venture Partners was in no doubt of why Camurus was selected as the best private biotech company in Medicon Valley 2007.
- In particular Camurus was chosen because they have been very capital efficient while going through clinical trials. However there were more reasons for choosing Camurus. Their research was well validated, and they had thought through how their products could be applied to different market needs. Overall we believe that there is a low risk associated with investing in Camurus, commented Patrick Lee, General Partner of Advent Venture Partners.
Despite the current success, Camurus has no plans of an IPO for 2008.
- No, we will still be a private company in 2008. Camurus already has a solid financing, but the award and event may be very helpful in securing the future continued expansion of the company and its product portfolio, said Frederik Tiberg.
For Camurus, participation in Strictly Financing Award 2007 provided them with a great chance to network and meet colleagues in the industry.
- The good thing about an event like this is not only the prize itself, but also the opportunity to profile the company and create awareness both locally and internationally. Not forgetting that it provides a possibility for networking, discussing corporate development in the industry and getting new business contacts, commented Frederik Tiberg.
Camurus develops pharmaceuticals based on advanced nanoscale drug-delivery systems for peptides, proteins, and insoluble small molecules. The company has three in-house products in clinical development covering therapeutic areas of cancer, pain and growth hormone disorder. Further drug development programs, own and with pharmaceutical partners, are in late preclinical development with clinical trials expected to begin within one to two years. This includes programs focused on metabolic disease, inflammation and opioid dependence. Camurus was founded in 1991 and is located at the Ideon Science Park in Lund.
Strictly Financing Award 2007 was organised by Medicon Valley Academy and UK Trade & Investment, Copenhagen.
