MVA wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We would like to thank our members and sponsors for all of their support. It is due to your involvement that we have succeeded in carrying out all of our successful cluster development projects in Medicon Valley throughout 2007.
Finally the Innovative Medicines Initiative project (IMI) is about to start. The EU Competitiveness Council and the European Parliament have approved the project, and the final decision is expected around Christmas. An information meeting will be held at MVA premises in Ørestad at 25 January.
MVA will organise meetings between interested scientists from universities, hospitals and SMEs from early/mid-January. If you are a public research group or an SME with novel methods or proposals within the forthcoming calls, please contact MVA to find out when and where more information will be available. Read more
In January 2008, a new project aiming at user driven innovation in the Nordic health care systems will start. MVA will serve as coordinator of the project and will establish contacts to interested medtech companies. As part of the activities, pilot projects will be initiated to test new user driven innovation models.
The user driven innovation project is initiated by the Nordic Innovation Centre and involves Region Skåne (Sweden), Central Jutland (Denmark) and Bergen (Norway). A parallel project includes single hospitals in Copenhagen, Lund and the Trondheim region (Norway). More details about the project will be communicated in connection with the kick-off meeting in mid-January.
How do you effectively manage your team in a life science project? How do you get people to do what you want without being regarded as manipulative? Join the MVA Project Management Coaching course and get insight to topics like group leadership, dealing with personalities, positive and negative feedback, isolating behaviour, motivation and much more. The course takes place at Ystad Saltsjöbad Spa, starting on 21 January and continues in Ørestad and Lund in February - May.

In January, MVA will host the Medicon Valley Drug Development Day (MVD3) in Ystad, which is the first step in the endorsement of preclinical and clinical research in Medicon Valley. MVD3 is a 24 hour workshop involving CROs, CMOs, service providers, project managers and regulatory consultants within drug development in Medicon Valley. The goal of the workshop is first and foremost to agree on a mutual strategy within preclinical and clinical development for the region, and secondly to discuss how the competences held within the region can be marketed both nationally and internationally. The workshop is concluded with the participants presenting their ideas and strategies for a judging panel consisting of representatives from local biotech, big pharma and the Associations of the Pharmaceutical Industry. Last week MVA organised the only major international biotech/pharma partnering event in Medicon Valley 2007: Biotech meets Pharma - Pharma meets Biotech. Around 100 people from 12 countries had signed up to a combined conference and one-on-one partnering event in the great surroundings of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Copenhagen. Among the attending international pharma companies were Pfizer, Wyeth, Merck and Abbott and also smaller pharma companies as Lundbeck and Merck-Serono. A number of Medicon Valley life science professionals - from mature biotech as Zealand Pharma to newcomers as Nordic Vaccine Technology - met with the international big pharma. Håkan Garpenstrand, Head of Licensing Scandinavia, Wyeth, viewed the partnering event as a success: "I very much enjoyed this busy meeting and made several new contacts. I'm already looking forward to the 2008 meeting!", he stated afterwards.
View programme and pictures from the event.
MVA would like to thank our partner PricewaterhouseCoopers and our sponsors Capio Diagnostik, Merck, Wyeth & LAB Scantox.
