Medicon Valley Academy Annual Meeting

The annual meeting addresses the question of "How far has the region come - has the vision been realised". Christian Wichmann Matthiessen, professor, University of Copenhagen, gives his bid. Uno Aldegren, newly appointed chairman of Region Skåne, addresses the political role of Region Skåne and other actors in the region. Advances in genetics have the potential to radically change health care. This meeting will discuss updates of the major scientific progress in genetic research, their implications for the future development of common disease prevention and treatment.

Also important issues such as implementation of genetic science in relevant clinical specialties, the funding of the health service, the role of pharmacogenetics in health care, the education and training of health professionals in public health genetics, the development of policy on the storage, protection and use of genetic information as well as other policy, social and ethical aspects of public health genetics.

Medicon Valley PhD programme
The Greater Copenhagen Authority (HUR) and Region Skåne hereby invite scientists from the Øresund region to participate in the Medicon Valley PhD Programme.
Medicon Valley PhD Programme is offering partial scholarships for PhD positions, for occupation from 1 July 2003.
To be considered for Medicon Valley PhD Programme, the proposed PhD project must be a collaboration between a public health institution (hospital) and a private company, both of them located in the Øresund region and on either side of Øresund. A university in the region must also participate in the collaboration.
With regard to its subject matter, the PhD project may lie within the fields of medicine, biotechnology or medical technology, but also within other health-related areas, such as public health or health economics.
