Editorial: MVA appoints new important board members and decide on a new name for the organisation.

At MVA’s Annual General Meeting on 28 March 2007 two significant developments were approved: The MVA Board of Directors was strengthened by inclusion of new Danish and Swedish high level executives and a new name for MVA was endorsed. Both events signal the next stage development of Medicon Valley as a world leading life science cluster.

The new MVA Board of Directors will strengthen the Danish-Swedish life science collaboration in Medicon Valley and will work to address the strategic issues facing our cluster during the next decade. The broad representation of the various stakeholders in the region provides experience, commitment and influence from Denmark and Sweden on both the private/public life science and business health care sectors.I am very pleased that these experienced and busy people will take the necessary time to work for moving a strong life science region into the next decade.

The new MVA Board of Directors consists of the following persons:

  • Chairman Per Belfrage, Professor, Lund University
  • Vice Chairman Mikael Ørum, Managing Director, Ventac Partners
  • Marianne Kock, Executive Vice President, Ferring Pharmaceutials
  • Cristina Glad, Executive Vice President, Bioinvent International

Medicon Valley Academy becomes Medicon Valley Alliance
Medicon Valley Alliance is the new name selected for MVA. It will be officially launched this summer in order to signal our move from primarily a university driven collaboration starting in 1997 towards a full fledged cluster organisation embedded in the regions’ business, science as well as public sectors. We believe that the name Medicon Valley Alliance strongly signals the coherent work within the triple-helix model of businesses, universities and hospitals on which MVA is built to serve.

An exciting and ambitious decade lies ahead
With great hope for the forthcoming decade we will celebrate the ten-year anniversary of MVA in the fall of 2007. This will be marked with several significant initiatives that will set the stage for the next ten years of development in the region. The exciting changes MVA has undergone during the last year have now paved the way for an ambitious new decade.

Best regards,

Stig Jørgensen, Managing Director
