Strategic Perspectives

Bioscience is one of the fastest growing sectors globally with a tremendous formation of biotech clusters around the world.

The UK has established itself as the European market leader in biotechnology industry and remains one of the most important biotech centres globally. In several aspects Oxford, Cambridge and London have become international role models for bioscience and innovative support to the industry. Other UK regions such as Scotland and Wales are also developing world-class research.

During the last decade, Medicon Valley has emerged as one of the most significant biotech clusters in Europe and is now among the five most attractive clusters world-wide. The success is derived from the region’s dense population of universities, university hospitals, pharmaceutical and biotech companies as well as the highly innovative collaboration between them, known as the triple-helix concept. To ensure continuous growth and prosperity, MVA has recently defined their “10 in 2010” strategy, a new initiative aiming to establish strategically close ties and active collaboration with globally important life science clusters, such as the biotech clusters in the UK.

The similarities between the British and Scandinavian research culture and business mentality further strengthen the UK-Medicon Valley Bioscience Alliance which combines research excellence, competencies and resources and will create unrivalled future grow.
