Only two weeks after the UK’s Minister of Science and Innovation, Lord Sainsbury, announced the news of a collaboration agreement between the UK government and Medicon Valley, the first arrangement was in place.
Thursday 21 October, UK Trade & Investment together with the London Biotechnology Network hosted a Novel Oncology Therapies Seminar at the British Embassy in Copenhagen. A delegation of prestigious UK organisations (listed below) met with their Medicon Valley counterparts. The seminar provided a forum for two-way dialogue on leading edge oncology research in therapeutic drug development. Round table discussions, presentations and networking sessions created privileged opportunities for future co-operation between Scandinavian and British organisations and a wider UK audience.
Cancer is currently the no. 1 priority in therapeutic research. The market is estimated to grow to around $35 billion by 2007. Considerable advances have been made in diagnosis and treatment, but there is still much to do. Research into immunotherapy, areas of angiogenesis, apoptosis and current therapies offer much potential. Scandinavia like the UK is well known as one of the world’s leading areas within cancer research.
