MVA Support

The overall aim of MVA's engagement in IMI is to ensure a high level of regional particpation in the innitiative and a high influx of EU research funds to the region, and by doing this strenghten Medicon Valley's stronghold within life science in Europe.

IMI is expected to be officially opened 30 April 2008 in Brussels, where the calls for 2008 will be presented together with the rules and guidelines for applying for IMI funds. On 9 May 2008 MVA will conduct an IMI opening conference in Ørestad to forward this information and to facilitate consortium building for the 2008 calls. From August 2005 MVA has been engaged in the IMI initiative. MVA's initiate focus was on organizing stakeholder conferences and meetings with discussions on themes from the Strategic Research Agenda.

Since August 2007, MVA has focused on building project consortia of public researchers, SME's and patient organizations for the forthcoming calls. Our main tasks are to:

  • inform public regional stakeholders about IMI
  • provide regional public stakeholders with a profound understanding of criterias of succes
  • build platforms to meet and discuss calls and consortia
  • facilitate the submission of high quality EOIs from regional public stakeholders.

Recent conducted activities include:

  • An Information Day was held at Ørestad, 25 January 2008. A hundred persons attended, including representatives from the universities of Copenhagen, Lund, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Uppsala and Umeå. Furthermore, regulatory authorities, patient organisations, SMEs and Medicon Valley pharma companies participated.
  • A conference on Pain research was conducted in Stockholm, 25 March 2008. Approximately 20 persons attended, including representatives from University of Copenhagen, Uppsala, Stockholm, patient organizations, and pharma companies.
