On 23-24 January, 15 participants from the CRO industry in Medicon Valley, representing non-clinical, pre-clinical and clinical companies as well as project management consultants, gathered in Ystad. The objective of the workshop was to discuss how to attract more business to the region by uniting the competencies of all the smaller and, in some cases, more specialised CROs in Medicon Valley. It is a fact that in Medicon Valley we have all the competencies needed to develop a drug from start to finish. It is also a fact that, internationally speaking, we are up against huge "all-in-one" CROs. So how do we make the best out of this situation for the region's CROs?
It was obvious that there was an interest in cooperating. Everybody could see clear benefits - as well as challenges. On the second day of the workshop, the work was presented to a panel of "professional customers", who gave their immediate feedback to the participants. The panel consisted of Anders Dejgaard, CMO of Novo Nordisk, Peter Buhl, CEO of TopoTarget, and Ida Sofie Jensen, CEO of LIF Denmark. The outcome of the 24 hour workshop were a SWOT analysis on a CRO collaboration in Medicon Valley and a list of key issues regarding how to start the project of uniting forces in the region's CRO industry. Furthermore, a working group was defined.
