Urology in Medicon Valley
A survey done in 2007 by consultancy New Insight stated that more than 1/3 of the enterprises (biotech, medtech and CROs) in Medicon Valley (100 of 250) have urology as business area. One third of these enterprises work within cancer and 15 enterprises work with incontinence specifically. There are 23 hospitals with urology or uro-gynaecology units in Medicon Valley, 117 urologists and most importantly: 30.000 patients each year.
Cancer (prostate-, bladder- and kidney cancer) dominates the picture with a total of 13.000 patients each year and 12.000 patients are diagnosed with lower urinary tract syndrome, such as incontinence, due to enlarged prostate, over active bladder and so on.
