Wednesday 9 February / 8.30 - 14.00 / BMC Lund University / Sölvegatan 19
The British Embassies in Sweden and Denmark in co-operation with the Biomedical Centre of Lund University, Medicon Valley Academy, Nordiska Forskningsnätet, Pronano AB and the association Vetenskap och Allmänhet invites you to a half-day discussion workshop, about risks and opportunities with Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies.
The discussion workshop will be held at the Biomedical Centre of Lund University on Wednesday 9 February.
Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies have huge potential to bring benefits to many areas of research and application, and are attracting rapidly increasing investments from Governments and businesses in many parts of the world. Many of the potential applications, however, raise safety, regulatory and ethical challenges for science communities, research funders and businesses: What is Nanoscience and Nanotechnology? Might it be hazardous to our health or to our environment? How will potential applications change our way of living? Where are we heading with this technology? Can we control it? Should we be trying to?
The discussion workshop will consider social, economic and ethical questions raised by the development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies, with particular focus on Nanomedicine and technical applications in that connection. The aim is to discuss different stakeholders’ opinions about potential opportunities and threats, and to establish contacts between British, Danish & Swedish actors in the nanoscientific fields.
