On 14 January, 75 high level participants from universities, research councils, regions and private enterprises met for a workshop arranged by Medicon Valley Alliance to discuss how Medicon Valley can improve cross-border utilisation of research infrastructure and centres of excellence. Focus was on research infrastructure, but not only on extremely expensive investments, such as MAX or ESS, but also on biobanks, clinical networks, research schools, and utilisation and upgrading of existing investments.
The speakers proposed cross-border utilisation of the new animal facilities at University of Copenhagen, new 7 Tesla MRI equipment to Lund and/or Hvidovre, and a Medicon Valley Translational Cancer Centre.
The research councils appeared positive to syndication for investing in equipment, but regarded cross-border project funding more difficult, at least from Sweden. It was decided that Medicon Valley Alliance will initiate formation of a working group with broad representation to follow-up with concrete proposals.
