Born 1940 in Lund, Sweden. Married with Elisabeth B., 3 children

 

Education

M.D., Ph.D. at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University 1966, post.doc 1997-98 at NIH, Bethesda, U.S.A.

 

Research career and area

Asst. prof., ass. prof., and 1988 Professor of Medical and Physiological Chemistry, Faculty of Medicine at Lund University. Research area: Molecular Signalling, especially Mechanisms of Insulin Action/ Experimental Diabetes Research. About 110 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. Tutored ca 10 Ph.D.students, held major MRC grant until 1998, headed 15 person research group until beginning of 1990s. Member, and Chairman of MRC Priority group Chemistry I for 6 and 3 years,respectively. Extensive experience of research evaluations from faculty and external research foundations.

 

Leadership career

Non-executive Director Lund University Board and Swedish Medical Research Council Board 1987-1993. ViceDean Research 1987 -1993 and Dean 1993 - 2000 , Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. Non-executive Director, Lund University Board 2000-2003. Chairman, Board of the Biomedical Center, Lund University 1998 - 2005. Chairman, Board of Medicon Valley Alliance, Copenhagen/Lund 1997- . Chairman, Board of SWEGENE, the Postgenomic Research and Technology Programme in South Western Sweden, a consortium formed between Lund University, Göteborg University and Chalmers Technical University 2000 - .
