€ 2,14 million donation to cancer research in Lund

 

Position Skåne reports, that the Brittish foundation The Märit and Hans Rausing Caritable Foundation has donated € 2,14 million to a group of researchers at the faculty of Medicine in Lund. The group is in charge of the BRIGGT (BRain Immuno Gene Tumour Therapy) research project, which aims at finding new methods for the treatment of malignant brain tumours.

 

The group is in the forefront of the technique in treating malignant glioma where patients are treated with their own glioma cells stimulating the patient’s immune system, a technique that reminds of vaccination.

 

The research group consists of more than 35 researchers at the departments of Radiophysics, Genetics, Tumour Immunology, Oncology, Virology, Neuroscience Neuropsychology at Lund University and Lund University Hospital. The group is led by Professor Leif G Salford, who is head of the division Neuro Surgery at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience in Lund.
