Recently, Professor Lars Samuelson was appointed vice-director of Mikroelektronik Centret (MIC), The Technical University of Denmark, with special responsibility as scientific leader for nanoscience and nanotechnology on a part time basis while maintaining his position at Lund Institute of Technology (Lunds Tekniska Högskola, LTH) in Sweden, as leader of the Nanometer Consortium at Lund University.
Beside the fact that he as a researcher of the highest international standard will contribute to the research and research strategies of MIC, Lars Samuelson's association with MIC will also pave the way to a closer cooperation between MIC and the Nanometer Consortium in a number of areas like e.g. education, research and process technology. It will contribute to give the Øresund region a leading position within nanotechnology and nanoscience in Europe.
Furthermore, the cooperation may contribute to the existing Scandinavian network, which consists of partners from the leading universities, among these DTU, Aarhus University, Copenhagen University, and Risø in Denmark and Lund University, LTH, Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg University and Malmö University in Sweden.
MIC’s special strength in this cooperation is within state-of-the-art development of new technologies, processing and devices within micro/nanomechanics and fluidics as well as silicon technology. The Nanometer Consortium has its strength especially within research in nanoscience and nanotechnology, with emphasis on nanoscale materials science, exploratory nanotechnology, nano-optics and quantum device physics.
