Europe's biotech actors gather in the Øresund region for Scandinavian Biotech Arena

In October next year, the Øresund region will be host to one of Europe's largest biotech events: Scandinavian Biotech Arena.

Scandinavian Biotech Arena is the overall title for three simultaneous conferences:
Biotech Forum, CONNECT Biomedical Partnership Forum and Medicon Valley BioConference. The conferences will be held in Malmo from 8-10 October 2002.

"With Scandinavian Biotech Arena, we are creating one of the largest meeting-places for parties involved in biotech development. We expect to attract more than 6,000 participants," says Bent Christensen, Managing Director of Medicon Valley Academy.

"The common venue of three such significant biotech events can create a synergetic effect that will strengthen biotech development in Scandinavia and the rest of Northern Europe. We see it as a major, important step towards EU Commission Chairman Romani Prodi's vision of a Europe capable of competing with the USA in the biotechnological area within ten years. No-one, not even the strongest European biotech regions, can achieve this vision alone. That's why network creation and partnerships such as Scandinavian Biotech Arena are vital prerequisites for reaching this ambitious goal."

Biotech Forum is Sweden's most important meeting-place for companies, researchers and business executives involved in biotechnological development. Biotech Forum is organised by Stockholm International Fairs. CONNECT Biomedical Partnership Forum provides an opportunity for young and innovative biotech companies and research groups to meet with, amongst others, representatives from the pharmaceutical industry and investors. The conference is organised by CONNECT in the Nordic and Baltic nations. And with Medicon Valley BioConference, Medicon Valley Academy has for the past four years been developing an attractive meeting-place which is visited by 800 researchers annually from hospitals, universities and the biotech industry in the Øresund region.
