Scandinavia's largest biotech event will be held on 8-10 October 2002 at Malmö Exhibition and Convention Centre in Sweden. The event goes by the name of Scandinavian Biotech Arena, and is a conglomeration of the BioTech Forum Exhibition, CONNECT Biomedical Partnership Forum and Medicon Valley BioConference. The idea is that these organisations collaborate in creating a meeting-place at which everyone involved in the biotech industry can exchange experience and knowledge.
During the three days of the event, there will be three parallel conference programmes to choose from. Notable among the speakers will be the Swedish Minister of Education Thomas Östros, and Lisa Drakeman, Managing Director of the biotech company Genmab, as well as speakers from a large range of other companies, hospitals, public authorities and research institutes within the fields of biomedicine and biotechnology.
"The Scandinavian biotech industry is beginning to establish itself as one of the best in the world, and in the course of the last year, we have noticed a sharply increased level of interest from many different parties. Following the downturn in the IT business, investors have begun to focus much more on the biotech industry. That makes it incredibly exciting to be running an event of this size in the Øresund region this October. It will be both a meeting-place and a source of inspiration, and will be of vital significance for future collaboration and investments in the Øresund region," says Bent Christensen, Chairman of Scandinavian Biotech Arena and Managing Director of Medicon Valley Academy.
Stefan Aspberg, Event Manager of the Stockholm International Fairs and Congress Centre, expects the event to attract around 5-6,000 visitors and 250 exhibitors. The exhibitors include all kinds of companies, from biotech start-ups to well-established multinational pharmaceutical companies. Around 15 countries will be represented, with national stands from, amongst others, Australia, Germany, the USA and Scotland.
